Helen Polichene, 90, cherished wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on May 19, 2017. Helen was born on April 4, 1927, to Mary (Mazurowski) and John Bosko in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from South High School and moved to Ravenna with her family. From Ravenna, she traveled daily to her job as head bookkeeper at the Cleveland Trust Company. Helen’s family loved to listen to stories about her daily train ride to the “big city”, and the vibrancy of Cleveland’s downtown during the 1940s. In 1951, Helen married Frank R. Polichene after meeting at the Brady Lake Dance Hall and jitterbugging the night away. They shared 62 memorable years together before his death in 2013. Helen spent her life raising her four wonderful daughters. Helen was an excellent cook, and when she was unable to cook herself, she instructed her daughters and grandchildren on the secrets of her beloved recipes. She spent countless hours with her grandchildren—who admired and learned from her life experiences. A die-hard sports fan and entertainment guru, Helen also delighted in watching old movies and reality TV. Helen will undoubtedly be remembered by many for her sharp wit and impeccable memory. Most importantly, she will be remembered for the love of family, tradition, and for her strength in overcoming personal adversity.  Helen will be missed by her four daughters: Diane (Jeff) Buller and Sandy Polichene of Ravenna; Nancy (Glenn) Gordon of Seattle, WA; and Janet (Tom) Lombardi of San Diego, CA, all who cared for her during her last two years. She also leaves behind her loving grandchildren: Brooke Buller of Columbus; Kelsey and Olivia Buller of Cleveland; Nathan Buch of Austin, TX; Gaby Buch of Seattle, WA; Elena and Matthew Lombardi of San Diego, CA; Meghan Hayes, and Kylene German of Seattle, WA. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Margaret (Pat) Ceglia, Juliann (Carl) Sorboro, and John (Terri) Bosko. Cremation and a private family celebration of life have taken place. A special thanks to Harbor Light Hospice and Unity Health. Condolences and memories of Helen may be shared with the family at www.sscfuneralhomes.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home.
