James Arthur McConnell passed away on April 23, 2017 in his home in Edinburg, Ohio with his family by his side, including his wife and best friend of 27 years, Alice M. McConnell.  He was 80 years old.
McConnell was born on October 22, 1936 in Northfield, Ohio, grew up on his family’s dairy farm and was a graduate of Nordonia High School.  He was preceded in death by his father Albert (Bert) McConnell and mother, Lulu McConnell, sisters, Jean Szudlo and Faye Spindler and late wife of 30 years, Patricia Anne (Boswell) McConnell.
He is survived by his beloved children, Patricia A. Rush (Ed), Joyce E. Hayes (Patrick), and James H. McConnell (Ellen) and grandchildren Erin Hayes, Gillian Hayes, Genevieve Rush and Ronald Adkins and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his step-children, Holly Willingham, Randy Papczun, Russell Papczun, Ronald Papczun, and Helene Leightner,  many grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
He loved camping with the Good Sams group, and took great pride in his yard, tractors and farming background.  He began his career at Ohio Edison, followed by 31 years at Alltel.
He will always be remembered for his willingness to “come to the rescue” whenever needed.  He will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.
Calling hours will be Thursday April 27, 2017 from 6-8 PM at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel.  Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Friday with burial to follow in Northfield-Macedonia Cemetery Northfield, Ohio.  The family asks that memorial donations may be made  to Edinburg United Church UCC 4081 Rock Spring Rd. Ravenna, Ohio 44266.
