John Ataman 82, a resident of Streetsboro for the past 52 years, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 at home with his family by his side. He was born Feb. 5, 1934 in Westmoreland County, PA to Eugene F. and Mary (Lelik) Ataman. John retired from Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills, Ohio as a Tow Motor Operator. He was a lifetime Pittsburgh Steelers fan, was a civil activist for community affairs in Streetsboro, enjoyed working with wood and creating unique woodworking projects. His Russian legacy brought him great pride as well as being a 50+ year member of AA. He always had a warm smile, entertaining story, and time to enjoy a cup of coffee and good conversation with all. John will be missed by his loving wife of 60 years Bettyann (Johnson). He always had a warm story to share of his children John (Gaylynn) Ataman Jr. of Garrettsville, Diana (Douglas) Dillon of Edinburg, James Ataman of Ravenna and Betty (Thomas) Yauger of Bedford. John often spoke proudly of grandchildren David, Katelin, Emily, Adam, Kenny, Allen, Ashalee and Alexandria, great grandchildren Barbara and Jeremiah, his loving sister Rose (Ron) Gearhart of San Bernardino, CA and adored his many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Jodi and his brother Eugene F. Ataman. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Streetsboro Chapel. Reverend William Snyder will officiate.
