Ruby Jayne McConnell, 78, of Shalersville, died Saturday, November 25, 2017, surrounded by family. She was born January 22, 1939 in Charleston, WV to Luther and Roberta (Bostic) Carr. Survivors include her daughter, Michael Marie Bennett, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews that she held dear to her, and two brothers, Thomas Carr and Samuel Carr. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Michael D. McConnell in 1991, her eldest daughter,  Carolyn Jean Hough in 2014, sisters  Alice Mohler, Flora Chapman, Kay Purvis,  and brother Orville Carr. 
Ruby was a retired postal carrier for the United States Postal Office in Ravenna, worked as bartender for the Ravenna Moose Lodge, and as a cashier for Marc’s in Ravenna (post-retirement). She prided herself in hard work. Ruby was also a member of First Baptist Church of Newton Falls, the Ravenna VFW, the Ravenna American Legion, and the Ravenna Moose Lodge #1234. She enjoyed bowling, bocce, Pittsburgh Steelers football, and time spent with family and friends. 

Memorial calling hours will be from 3PMuntil the time of the service at 5PM on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Pastor Steve Spurlock will officiate. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ravenna Moose Lodge Building Fund, to which Ruby dedicated a great amount of her time, efforts, and heart, as her Moose family was as close to her as her own family.
