Lawrence A. "Larry" Shafer 67 of Ravenna died Friday, May 3, 2013. He was born December 15, 1945 in Southgate, London, England to Lester A. and Kathleen M. (Bush) Shafer. Larry was a fireman for the city of Ravenna, serving as Captain and 15 years as fire chief. He was currently serving as the Safety Compliance Officer for the City of Ravenna and was a life member of the Ravenna Elks. Survivors include his wife Sheila (Cline), daughters Laura Maroni of Ravenna and Michelle King of Avon, son Jon Shafer of London, England, grandchildren Megan, Ryan, Marissa, Jack, Caroline, and Ava, great granddaughter Layla and brother Andrew Shafer of Ravenna. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Michael Shafer. Calling hours will be from 2 - 5 Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Monday, May 6, 2013 at the funeral home with Father James Lang officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.

My sincere condolences to Larry's family. I knew him originally from Country Club Lanes and later saw him at the monthly Safety Council Meetings. Larry was a very nice person. It was a pleasure talking with him.

My deepest condolences to the Shafer family. I had the pleasure of working with Larry for the last 6 years and he was a dedicated employee and certainly had the City of Ravenna and Residence best interest in mind at all times.

My deepest sympathy on your loss. I have enjoyed working with Larry over the past few years. Larry was always pleasure to talk to and great at getting projects accomplished. He will be missed.

My deepest sympathy to the Shafer family. Larry was a dedicated, soft spoken gentleman. He was an icon within the City of Ravenna and the county and will be missed by many. His legacy will live on with all the wonderful things he did to make the community a better place.
