Madeline Marie Hluch Obituary

Madeline Marie Hluch, 93, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and faithful servant, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2024.  She possessed a kind and powerful spirit that was unmatched.  Madeline had a heart for serving others.  Revered for her tireless love of others, even her grandchildren’s friends referred to her as “Grandma.”

Madeline is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister.  She is survived by brother Paul Runyeon Jr. (Nancy); her children, Jess (Karen), Paula, and Dale (Betsy); her grandchildren, Alex, Andy (Amanda), Aric, Lane, Aaron, and Conner; her great-granddaughter, Olivia; her nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

Born on August 10, 1930, in Akron, Ohio, Madeline was the daughter of Paul and Martha (Wise) Runyeon, and the sister of Marilyn and Paul Runyeon.  She graduated from Springfield High School and Hammel Business College.  She was married to Fred Hluch until his passing on December 10, 1999.

Madeline’s life focus was faith, family, and service to others. Madeline lovingly served The Chapel in Marlboro for nearly 50 years by counting offerings, acting as the director of funeral dinners, teaching Sunday school with Fred, transporting church members to various events, greeting visitors, and helping wherever she was needed.  Additionally, she supported Battered Women’s Shelters, the Alliance Pregnancy Center, and the Barberton Seventh Day Adventist Help Center with donations.  Over the years, Madeline packed and sent literal tons of clothing and supplies to Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, and Native American reservations. She supported countless missionaries. She was a volunteer for the Haven of Rest for 33 years.

Within her family and community, Madeline was known as a positive force.  She was a founding member and treasurer of the Rootstown Foundation and Alumni Association.  As the treasurer/CFO of Rootstown Local and Tallmadge City Schools and a member of the Rootstown Board of Education for 12 years, Madeline always valued the importance of education.

Madeline’s family loved her dearly.  She looked forward to her children and grandchildren visiting with her every Sunday for her home-cooked meals.  As an avid gardener, Madeline cherished the springtime when her flowers began to bloom.  She enjoyed cooking, reading her Bible, following current events, and serving others.

Per Madeline’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Haven of Rest Ministries, 175 E. Market Street, Akron, Ohio, 44308, or the Chapel in Marlboro, 8700 Edison Street NE, Louisville, Ohio, 44641.  Madeline’s Celebration of Life will be held on SATURDAY, April 6, 2024, with family and friends visitation at 10:00AM followed by service at 11:15AM with a funeral dinner to follow at THE CHAPEL IN MARLBORO, 8700 Edison Street NE, Louisville, Ohio, 44641.
