Durward Eugene "Gene" Russell

Durward Eugene "Gene" Russell, 75, of Rootstown, formerly of Ravenna Twp, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019. He was born October 28, 1943, in Richwood, WV to George Darius and Ruby (nee Dennis) Russell. Gene was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War receiving the Purple Heart with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and a member of the Ravenna VFW #1055. He retired from Parker Hannifin after many years of service and enjoyed  golfing and camping. Survivors include his wife of 56 years Mary Ann (Bretti) Russell, daughter Tiffany Jeannine (Brett) Bennett of Dallas, TX, grandchildren Ryan Russell Bennett and Ava Victoria Bennett; sister, Linda (Russ) McDonald, of Houston, TX, and nieces Denise (Ron) Jenkins and Sherry (Richard) Blasens. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dale and David Russell and sisters, Shirley Russell Dorsey and Ruth Ann Hunt. Calling hours will be from 2 - 5 PM Sunday, April 28, 2019, at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Monday, April 29, 2019, at the funeral home with Rod Truman officiating. Entombment will follow in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.
