Harvey John Cummings

Harvey John Cummings, 90 of Ravenna passed away Friday November 22, 2019 at his home.  He was born on April 16, 1929 in Newton Falls, Ohio to the late Clyde and Kathryn "Kitty" (Gruber) Cummings.  He spent his childhood in Newton Falls , Canton and Ravenna.  Harvey graduated from Ravenna High School in 1947.  He then went to Kent State University obtaining a degree in Architecture and picking up a foreign language along the way.  Upon graduation, he accepted a position at the Cleveland City Planning Commission, eventually leaving there as chief of Renewal Planning.  He then decided to earn a masters degree in Urban Planning at the University of Montreal and worked at the Canadian Ministry of Urban Affairs in Ottawa, Ontario.  He went on to hold Responsible Planning positions in suburban Philadelphia and Harrisburg, PA.  He loved traveling with his favorite destinations including France, New York City and Montreal.  In retirement he returned to his hometown of Ravenna to be near family and friends.  He is survived by his sister, Joyce Ann (John) Gabriel, nephews Mark (Jane) Gabriel, Joel (Susan) Gabriel, great nephews Julian, Jonathan, Jorryn, Jaidyn Gabriel and great niece Tessa Gabriel.  A Private inurnment will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery Ravenna, Ohio.  Condolences and memories of Harvey may be shared at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
