Helena Brieda Obituary

Helena passed away on Monday, June 4, 2018 at the age of 80 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Originally born in Breslau, Germany on September 1, 1937, her parents were Johann Kwossek and Emilie Hein.
Helena first completed her high school education in Duisburg, Germany in 1954. Then, following her immigration to Canada at age 17, she graduated from the Alberta Nursing Aide School in Edmonton in 1962. Immediately afterward, Helena traveled to and became a citizen of the United States. There she went on to earn her License as a Practical Nurse in Ohio, graduating in 1972. Helena was a Nurse Practitioner for over 30 years. Her special gift was lovingly caring for the dying.
Helena most enjoyed reading the Bible, making Rosaries, writing letters to loved ones, and visiting over tea and sweets with family and friends.
She was a church member of both St. Joseph Parish in Mantua, Ohio and St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntley, Illinois. Helena was also a devoted member of the St. Joseph Garden Club. In addition, she was a regular donor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, various Catholic charities, the hungry and the homeless.
Helena was preceded in death by her beloved son, Raymond J. Brieda. She is survived by her loving husband, Virginio V. Brieda, and her devoted daughter, Teresa J. Betcher.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Parish, 11045 St. Joseph Blvd., Mantua, Ohio 44255. A Catholic Mass will immediately follow at 12:00 noon. The Burial will be at the West Lawn Cemetery, 3983 Ohio 82, Mantua, Ohio 44255. A Reception will be held afterward at Jake’s Eats, 4680 Prospect St., Mantua, Ohio 44255.
The family would like to give special thanks to The Neighborhood in Rio Rancho, Legacy Hospice, and Honor Care for their loving and devoted services to Helena during these last few precious months of her life.
It was Helena’s heartfelt wish that, upon her passing, everyone remember the following words of our Savior. On the night before He died, Jesus said: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in Me. In My Father’s house there are many dwelling places… If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to Myself, so that where I am you also may be… Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you… Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” John 14
