Maria Herczog Gulyas of Streetsboro, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of October 12, 2017 at Akron General Hospital. She is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Josef Gulyas, her granddaughter Ashley Gulyas, and by her sister Terez Solarik. She is survived by her children John (Sharon) Herczog, Maria (Jamal) Mahmood, Elizabeth (Rick) Lewis, Josef (Marcela) Gulyas, Imre (Anita) Gulyas, Julianna (Daniel) Corlett; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Heather, Margaret, Franklyn (Christina), Monica (Monnie), Megan, Tamarah, Nicole,  Garritt (Kathryn), Daniel, and Sarah; her great-grandchildren Khaled, Penelope, Jennah, Giovanni, Flint, and Jesse;  and her niece Julianna Ranyak and great nephew, Joseph Ranyak (Cheryl). Maria was born on July 3, 1936 in Budaorz, Budapest, Hungry, to Janos Herczog and Therezia Fritzenschaft. She immigrated to the US through NY on December 22, 1950 by way of the SS General Blatchford. Her family settled in the Cleveland area and she remained in Northeast Ohio for the remainder of her life, except for a few years in Phoenix, AZ. She was a strong, gentle, and cohesive force for her very large family and will be greatly missed. Calling hours will continue on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 9:30AM until the beginning of Mass at 10:30AM at St. Joan of Arc Church 8894 OH-14 Streetsboro, OH 44241. Father Chris Luoni will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Maria's name to St. Joan of Arc, Catholic Charities, or to a charity of your choice.
