Mary Alyce (Sumner) Jones

Mary Alyce “Migs” Jones passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019 in Ravenna, Ohio.  She was born on February 12, 1933 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to the late Dr. Charles and Jean (Heinze) Sumner.    She received a Baccalaureate degree in Education from Kent State University, subsequently working for many years as a Kindergarten & First Grade teacher at Highland Elementary (now Carlin Elementary) in Ravenna.  She was married to Henry Robert “Bob” Jones for 59 years prior to his passing in January of 2015.  Together, they enjoyed traveling extensively and boating on Lake Erie, along with a tight-knit group of longtime friends.  She is survived by her daughter Kim (Mark) Birkner of Ravenna, her son Kirk (Brenda) Jones of Ravenna, three grandchildren Crystal, Chelsea and Caitlin and two great-grandchildren Kendall and Jackson. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday November 13, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home in in Ravenna.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Portage Animal Protective League at P.O.
