Ruth Negley Obituary

Ruth May Negley, 100, of Ravenna passed away Monday, June 18, 2018 with her family at her side.  She was born a century ago on June 3, 1918 on a farm in Geistown, PA to her father, the late Curtis Horne and her mother, the late Freda Grace Miller (Chester) Price.  Ruth’s 100 years were filled with many special memories which included Friday night taffy pulls and square dancing at neighbors’ barns during her childhood years in PA.  Her family later moved to Akron where she attended South High and later married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Jim Negley.  They married September 14, 1940 at their minister’s home.  The births of children Jim and Jeanne brought her great joy.  After her husband’s early death, Ruth kept herself busy in many ways.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Akron.  Over the years, Ruth worked for the US Postal Service, Paco Rubber, and Storybook Daycare.  After retirement, Ruth enjoyed dancing, traveling, completing countless jigsaw and word search puzzles, and watching game shows.  Nothing brought Ruth more happiness than spending time with her loving family.  She was an amazing woman who lived independently up to the week before her death.  Survivors include her son Jim (Connie) Negley, her daughter Jeanne (Jim) Richards, grandchildren Kim (Bob) Negley, Laurie (Todd) Shaw, Carla (Avery) Krych, and Brian Richards.  Survivors also include her precious great-grandchildren Grant Negley, Connor Shaw, Kaitlyn Shaw, Heather (Jeff) Davenport, Jordan Krych, Emily Krych, and Ashley Hench.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Negley and her granddaughter Chris Hench.  At Ruth’s request, private family services were already held and she was buried at Greenlawn Cemetery in Akron.  The family wishes to extend appreciation to Brookdale Senior Living for their excellent care during Ruth’s final days.  Condolences and memories of Ruth may be shared with her family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
