Shirley A (Veon) Moore

Shirley A. Moore, 80, of Ravenna, passed away Thursday April 26, 2018 at the Arbors at Stow.  She was born July 27, 1937 in Hubbard, Ohio to the late Leonard and Teresa (Kuchenbecker) Veon.  Being a lifelong Portage County resident, she was a 1955 graduate from Windham High School and had worked as a balloon printer for Oak Rubber in Ravenna many years before they closed.  Shirley was a long standing member of the Rootstown United Methodist Church and was well known by all Rootstown High School where she was the statistician for the boys basketball team for over 18 years.  She loved to make homemade crochet slippers for friends and family, along with baby blankets for the new editions to the family's as well as crochet and donate many pouches for walkers and lap robes for the elderly at the Portage County Nursing Homes.  In her younger years she enjoyed bowling with her friends on the Guido's Pizza team of Ravenna.  Shirley's most claim to fame was her cookies! Especially her homemade buckeyes.  She was known to many as the cookie lady.  Each year she would work day and night making thousands of Christmas cookies for all to enjoy.  The family also really loved her deviled eggs, they were the best.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Lauren and Richard Veon.  Survivors include her sons Duane Hacker of Randolph, David (Melissa) Moore of Kent, her grandchildren Denise Hacker/Bailey, Brianna Ford, Brooklin Ford, Brittney Moore, great grandchildren Orian and Draco Bailey and her brother Lee Veon of Rootstown.  At her request, cremation has taken place.  Memorial calling hours will be held on Monday April 30, 2018 from 4-8 PM at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel.  Condolences and memories of Shirley may be shared with the family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
