George F. Backus

George F. Backus 80 of Mantua passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022 at the Woodlands Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born December 17, 1941 in Waterloo, NY to Frank and Twyla (Swarthout) Backus. George was a saw operator for Norman Dow Lumber Company for 40 years and attended the Freedom Assembly of God. Survivors include his children Lynn (James) Campfield, Willie (Ann) Chilson, Chris Chilson and Matt (Karen) Chilson, 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and siblings Glena Backus, David Griffith and Patricia Griffith. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Beth M. and daughter Ginger Rotunda. Calling hours will be from 11 AM until time of funeral service at 1 PM Monday, February 7, 2022 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel with Pastor Richard Hose. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
