Ravenna

Alice Giorgio, of Ravenna, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025 at Vista Veranda in Ravenna. Alice was born on May 24, 1929 in Ravenna, Ohio to Italian immigrants, the late Santo and Maria (Flaminio) Garro. A lifetime resident of Ravenna, she grew up on Meridian St., an Italian neighborhood, nicknamed “macaroni hill” because of its Italian heritage. Alice was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, the “Immaculate Dust Busters”, The Infant of Prague Ladies Guild, and the Young at Heart Club, which were all sponsored by Immaculate Conception Church. Alice was also a founding member of the Italian-American Club Ladies Auxiliary in Ravenna and the Portage Senior Center Red Hat Ladies. Alice graduated from Ravenna High School, class of 1947, along with her future husband, Carl T. Giorgio, whom she married on April 26, 1952. Together they raised their family in the house that Carl built on Summit Road. Alice continued to live in this same house until recently. Alice, a homemaker, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She worked in the Willyard School cafeteria in the 1970’s and she enjoyed working with many of her friends at Guido’s Pizza and Catering. She also enjoyed traveling with many of her friends on bus trips, playing Bingo and cards with friends at the Senior Center and bargain shopping with her sisters. Alice is survived by her daughter Carla (Bob) Slone of Ravenna, and sons Michael (Gretchen) of Stow, and Matthew Giorgio of Atwater. She was the loving grandmother to her grandchildren Amanda Marshall of Brimfield, Andrea Giorgio (Tyler) of Streetsboro, Michael Giorgio (Kory) of Cuyahoga Falls, Robert Slone of Houston, Texas, Antonella Slone (Joseph) of Akron, and Kristin Beynon (David) of Akron. She is also survived by Great-Grandchildren Rylee and Arya Marshall, Gianna Giorgio and Jonah Beynon. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl Giorgio, brothers Nunzio (Chet), and Patrick Garro, and sisters Carmella Mazzochi, Laura Clark, Grace Reckner and Mary Rossodivito, and daughter-in-law Leslie Giorgio. Funeral arrangements have been made by Short Spicer Crislip Funeral Home of Ravenna and will take place on Thursday, January 16th. Calling hours at 10:00 AM and Funeral services at 11:00 will be conducted by Fr.  William Kraynak at Immaculate Conception Church, 409 West Main Street, Ravenna with the burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ravenna. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Vista Veranda, especially Rhonda, Tara, Ashley, Tammy, Caroline, Joelle, Vicky, Courtney, Avery, Myracale and Diamond. Also the Affinity Hospice staff, Kayleigh, Krystal, and Janet for their tender, loving care and attention. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alice Giorgio’s name to Immaculate Conception Parish for the St. Mary’s Cemetery care.
