Known to most as Mamal, this spunky and vibrant lady went to be with her beloved husband, Kenny, and cherished dog, Blue, on June 30, 2024, after fighting a long battle with terminal illness. Altabell “Bell” (Dent) King was born and raised in Ravenna Township to George and Cloie (Stidd) Dent. After getting married in 1963, she and her husband decided to move to Baltimore, Maryland, where she gave birth to her four children, Morticia, Vernon, William, and Lettie. At a time when women did not drive or get a job, she alongside her friend, Beverly, got her driver’s license. She went back to school to get her GED alongside her grandkids, further proving her determination to do anything she set her mind to. After moving back to Ohio, she got a job at Smithers-Oasis on the factory lines where she was a beloved coworker and friend for decades. Bell loved to travel and see new things. Some of her fondest memories are her first plane ride to Las Vegas, going to the Florida Keys, and loading up the grandkids for a road trip to Mammoth Cave or the Outer Banks. The family spent weekends and have fond memories of trips to Geneva-on-the-Lake where the guys would go fishing and the ladies would go to garage sales. If she wasn’t traveling, she loved playing cards at home, specifically Canasta. She would teach that to anyone willing to learn. She also loved painting ceramics and crocheting. There was always a project she was working on. Wanting to make every holiday special, even from hospital beds she would coordinate Christmas gifts for her family and trick-or-treat candy for every kid in the neighborhood. Her house was always decorated for upcoming festivities, her favorite decoration being a red Christmas tree that was gifted to her by her family for her 50th wedding anniversary. She hosted Easter egg hunts, Thanksgiving Dinner (including the scouring of the Black Friday ads for good deals), and many Christmas parties. Altabell is preceded in death by her dear husband, Vernon “Kenny” King, parents George and Cloie (Stidd) Dent, brothers Franklin and Paul Dent, daughter-in-law Bonnie King, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her siblings, Terry Dent and Minnie Snowberger, children, Morticia (Jim) Williamson, Vernon (Jane) King, Lettie (Cecil) Keene, and William King, many grandchildren, Danny Peppeard, Trisha (Vickie) Tenney, Cory (Ana) Peppeard, Sommer King, Dakota King, Dalton King, Darin (Amanda) Cleavenger, Serina (Velece O’Conke) Cleavenger, Kayla (Clayton) Lovejoy, Ashley (Patrick) Hahe, and Zachary (Kelley) King, as well as great grandchildren Grayson, Finnick, Ella, Michael, Magnus, Darin, Arya, Brooklynn, Nevaeh, Kolton, Dausan, Charleigh, Ryan, and Madison. She also leaves behind so many nieces, nephews, and adopted family who loved her dearly. Calling hours will be from 5 PM until time of services at 7 PM Monday, July 8, 2024 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 in Coolville, Ohio.
