Barbara J (Bresky) Sorkin

Barbara Jean Sorkin (nee Bresky), 81 a lifelong resident of Rootstown, was reunited with her husband, Nathan “Buck” Sorkin, Monday August 21, 2023.  Barbara was born to the late Mitchell “Mick” & Margaret (nee Lock) Bresky on March 11, 1942, in Ravenna, Ohio. May 15, 1965, she married Nathan R. "Buck" Sorkin who unexpectedly passed away, November 23, 1983 after 19 blissful years of marriage. When Barbara and Buck first married, she only knew how to bake, her Mother-In Law, Gilda (nee Fusillo) Sorkin, taught her to cook so her new husband wouldn’t starve. Mr. & Mrs. Sorkin & their two children, Jack & Jeanie, attended St. Peter of the Fields Church for over 30 years. In the late 1970’s Barbara took over management of Chirchiglia’s Music Shop located in Ravenna & after several years of management, she decided to purchase the business & make it her own changing the name to Sorkin Music Company which she owned & operated from the early 1980’s until her retirement in the early 2000’s. In 2002, Barbara followed in her late husband’s footsteps & joined The Rootstown Lions Club & held several offices such as King Lion, Zone Chair & District Governor & received numerous Awards: Knight of the Blind Award & Highly prestigious, Melvin Jones Award. Barbara also helped promote awareness to the Blind through the Lions Club as well as collecting eyeglasses donated by the community. In her younger younger years, she learned to sew and made all of her own school clothes as well as making her own wedding dress, bridesmaid dress as well as clothes for her children & other family. She loved sewing so much and helping others, she was a member of the Cocoon Makers Sewing Club in Ravenna. Survivors include her daughter, Jeanie Sorkin, her son Jack Sorkin and grandson Nathan Ray Sorkin (Son of Jeanie) Calling hours will be Monday August 28, 2023 from 11:00 AM until Noon & Funeral services will commence immediately after at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
