Birgit A. (Thomsen) Lansinger

It is with love, sadness, and fond memories that the family of Birgit “Gauggie” Lansinger announces her passing.  Born in Assens, Denmark, March 13, 1926, she came to New York through Ellis Island along with her older sister, Mildred, and her mother to join her father.  Her younger brother, David, was born later. Birgit was always extremely proud of her Danish heritage.  She worked hard to keep up her relationships with them and  to pass on her Danish relationships to her children. Birgit grew up on Staten Island, New York, and at 18 met a handsome soldier Marvin (Bud) Lansinger from Ohio who was waiting to be shipped to Europe during WWII.   After the war,  Birgit left for Ohio to marry and start a family. She belonged to many clubs and enjoyed forming new friendships.  Up until this month, Birgit was bowling twice a week,  and enjoying her Red Hats and Garden Club!  She is survived by her three children, Patricia Moore, Linda Lansinger-Siegel, and David Lansinger, her five grandchildren, David, Miranda, Liz, Jodi and Brad.  And her great-grandchildren, Darien, Indy, Spencer, Levi and Riley. Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 5-7pm at the Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.  The funeral service will be at the funeral home at 11:30 am Wednesday , October 17, 2018 with Reverend Norma Bates officiating. Burial will follow in Drakesburg Cemetery in Freedom Township. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Portage County APL, PO Box 927, Ravenna, Ohio 44266.
