Carl E. Conley

Carl Edwin Conley 82 a lifelong Rootstown resident, passed away Wednesday May 14, 2014 at the Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.  He was born September 10, 1931 in Akron, Ohio to the late Clyde Leroy and Mary Elizabeth (Gray) Conley.  Mr. Conley was known as the voice of the Rootstown Rovers announcing all sporting events.  He was most proud at one of the girls basketball games he was able to meet Lebron James  and was most happy after Lebron turned pro that he still remembered Mr. Conley.  Mr. Conley was a member of the the St. Peter of the Fields Church in Rootstown and the Knights of Columbus Council 5173 where he was a past Grand Knight and a district deputy.  He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed bird watching.   Survivors include his wife of 62 years  Cecilia (Keppler) Conley, his children Jennifer Marie (Robert) Flecksteiner, David (Pat) Conley, Stephen Conley, Daniel (Nancy) Conley, James (Jodie) Conley and Christopher Conley.  Also surviving are 15 grandchildren , 13 great grandchildren  and sister Grace Evelyn Korbuszewski.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother William L. and Laura Rose Sherrard.  Calling hours will be Saturday May 17, 2014 from 2PM until time of services at 4PM at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel.  The family requests that li lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Ohio Bird Sanctuary 3774 Orweiler Rd. Mansfield, Ohio 44903.
