Clarence E. ("Gravy") Campbell Jr.

Clarence E. "Gravy" Campbell, Jr. 79, of Ravenna passed away Friday May 16, 2014 at the University Hospital of Cleveland.  He was born February 6, 1935 in Clarksville, Tennessee to the late Clarence Campbell, Sr. and Katie M. (Washington) Jones.  Gravy as his friends knew him has lived in Ravenna most of his life and had retired from General Electric in Ravenna where he worked as a machine operator.  He had also worked at the Terex Corporation before retiring.  Mr. Campbell was a Deacon for the United Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic Faith in Ravenna.  He loved to western movies and was an avid sports fan, where as he had an opportunity to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates but was said to have turn that down to marry his wife who survives, Doris (Sanders) Campbell on February 10, 1954.  Survivors also include his children, Felina (Ralston) Purkiss of Ravenna, Dornetta (Leonard) Curgill of Rootstown, Clarence Campbell, III of Washington, DC, Paul Douglas (Maria) Campbell of Columbus, Ohio, his grandchildren, Tyson (Tami) Campbell, Kenya Campbell, Neema Campbell, Xylon (Tiphaney) Purkiss, Paige (Brittany) Williams, Joshua (Angie) Campbell, Asa Shaw Purkiss, Jairus Campbell, Kayla Purkiss, Jaylen Campbell, Zephaniah Curgil and Leonard Curgil, II.  Also surviving are 11 great grandchildren, his siblings Regina Perry of Glendale,, AZ., Paul Jones of Coldspring, NV., Elmo (Debra) Jones, Marion C. Jones, Stanley Jones all of Ravenna and host of relatives and friends.  In addition  to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Ella Marie Kate Campbell, his siblings Thelma Hazzard, Promise Williams, Andrew and Henry Jones.  Calling hours will be from 10AM until time of funeral service at 12:00 Noon on Saturday May 24, 2014 at the United Methodist Church of Kent 1435 E. Main St. Kent, Ohio 44240  with Elder James Sanders Officiating.  Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park Ravenna, Ohio.  There will be fellowship and gathering following the burial at Maplewood Career Center, 7075 St. Rt. 88, Ravenna, Ohio.
