Claude W. "Ben" Steigerwalt, 93, of Ravenna, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Robinson Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 26, 1917 in West Penn, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania to the late Albert and Mable (Zenner) Steigerwalt. Ben came to the Ravenna Arsenal from Atlas Powder Company in Pennsylvania in 1941. He was a load line Superintendent. He worked at the Arsenal for all three wars. Ben also worked in Research and Development at Firestone Steel Products until he retired in 1981. He was an avid golfer and Life Member of the Ravenna Elks and Masonic Lodge of Garrettsville. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Maxine (Lange) Steigerwalt; daughters, Patty (Alan) Freid of Cincinnati, Diane Smallwood of Kent, Donnette Wheeler of Ellet, ad Debra (Jeff) Wagner of Shalersville; sons, Don and Larry Gooch of Cheraw, South Carolina; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by his son, Van. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 6-8 PM at the Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Robinson Memorial Hospital Hospice, 6847 N. Chestnut St., Ravenna, OH 44266.
