Dr. Clifford Riggs Bliss 79 of Kent passed away Monday, January 19, 2026 at Select Specialty Hospital in Akron mouthing "I love you" to his gathered family. He was born August 11, 1946 in Winthrop, Massachusetts to Stanley K. and Rose (Riggs) Bliss. Cliff was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and neighbor. He loved helping people, being a teacher and scholar and laughing. He enjoyed tinkering with things that needed fixing and problem solving. He enjoyed traveling and going on serendipity trips. His biggest regret was having to take a disability retirement from teaching due to post-polio syndrome. He missed the interaction with students. He taught for most of his career at Tallmadge High School as an Industrial Technology teacher and at Kent State teaching Materials and Processes. He was still teaching the day before he died. He was a triple graduate of KSU, earning his bachelor's, master's, and Educational Specialist degrees. He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Mary Jane (Tuckerman), his daughters Wende (Bryan) Campbell, Jennifer (Steve) McDonald, Elizabeth Sadowski, grandchildren Andy (Dena) Campbell, Alicia (Clayton) Kirby, Nicholas (Julita) Ellis, Graham Campbell, Samantha Ellis, Ethan (Jessica Giulitto) Campbell, Brennan Sadowski, Baxter Sadowski, Sean McDonald, Zachary McDonald, Broggan Sadowski, and great-grandchildren Dylan Campbell, Mila Kirby, Camden Kirby, Caleb Kirby, Danica Campbell, and Ella Kirby. He also leaves his twin sister Claudia (David Hopkins) and brother Ronald (Taka). He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Roger (Gustavo) and granddaughter Amanda Campbell. Calling hours will be from 6 PM to 8 PM Monday, January 26, 2026 and from 10 AM until time of funeral services at 11 AM Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Reverend Edward Peterson will officiate. Burial will follow in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his name to the American Red Cross, where he donated over 120 units of blood or to Teen Mother Choices - Blessings of Northeast Ohio, where he was a former board member.
