Curtis L. Kesling 91 of Garrettsville, formerly of Freedom Twp., died Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Ravenna. He was born October 2, 1925 in Gassaway, WV to the late Burley and Nellie (Long) Kesling. He married Irene (Crew) McCoy on July 6, 1963 and was a resident of Freedom Township for 43 years. In July 2006, the Keslings sold there home and moved to Garrettsville. Mr. Kesling worked for the Polson Rubber Company for 25 years until they closed in 1976. He retired from the maintenance department at James A. Garfield School District in 1991. He later worked part-time for McDonalds in Mantua. He served in the Army in the 1940's. He was a member of the Portage County Amateur Radio Service, Inc and attended the Freedom Congregational Church. Mr. Kesling never met a stranger. He loved to talk and share his life experiences with all he came in contact with. He was always ready to help his family and friends when called upon, and he will be greatly missed. He leaves two sons, Arnold (Pam) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Wallace (Rhonda) of Ocala, FL, two stepsons Randall (Linda) McCoy of Rootstown and Michael (Judy) McCoy of Freedom, stepdaughter Claudia (John) Garrett of Freedom, six grandchildren Amanda Garrett, Jared (Mindy) Kesling, Phillip Mccoy, Jennifer McCoy, Justina McCoy and Matthew McCoy, great grandchildren Logan and Lydia, a sister Velma Frame of FL , very special faithful loving friend Jennie Wilson of Garrettsville and many nieces and nephews. Curt spent the last months of his life at Brookdale and loved living there because he received excellent care from the administration, nursing staff, hospice staff, housekeeping staff and kitchen staff. They were his extended family that he always said "They treat me like a king." He will especially miss his table mates at Brookdale, Bob and Andy, who shared many a story with Curt. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene in 2011, granddaughter Maggie and a brother Gilbert Kesling. Calling hours will be from 10 AM until time of funeral service at 12 PM Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the First Congregational Church of Freedom, 8961 State Route 88, Windham, OH. Reverend Jim Melick will officiate. Burial will follow in Drakesburg Cemetery in Freedom Township. The family would like to thank Pastors Jim and Janie Melick and the members of First Congregational Church of Freedom for their visits, cards and letters of encouragement . Also thank you to Dr. Jessica Bittence, Dr. Howard Minott, Dr. Roger Tsai and the Congestive Heart Failure Clinic.
