Curtis Lee Wise

July 16, 1944 — February 25, 2024

Rootstown

Curtis Lee Wise, 79, of Rootstown, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024. He was born on July 16, 1944 to the late Paul E. and Zoie Dale (Michael) Wise and grew up in Suffield, Ohio.

As a lifelong Rootstown resident, he was a carpenter by trade and spent his career working at Christenson Construction in Kent, Ohio, where he helped build many of the banks, libraries, schools, and other commercial sites—including the AT&T hub—in and around the Akron area. He later bought the company and ran it until his retirement.

Curt loved Rootstown Rovers wrestling, a good fish fry, Monday night football, and his ’57 Chevy. But most of all, he loved the family land he inherited in West Virginia and built a beautiful, made-to-last cabin there for his kids and descendants to enjoy for decades to come. He always called it “the wildest place east of the Mississippi.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Ralph Wise. Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years Jacquelyn Sue (Pfile) Wise, who he married July 2, 1966, and his children Christina S. Wise, Corey G. (Nancy) Wise, Craig A. (Erin Brunner) Wise, his grandchildren Valerie, Tyler, Dylan, Mason, and Madelyn, as well as his great-granddaughter Mia and his siblings Sharen Johnson and Rich Wise.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday March 2, 2024 at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home’s Ravenna Chapel, with callings hours from 11 AM until the time of the funeral service directly afterward. Burial will follow in Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Rootstown Wrestling Boosters either via Venmo @rootstownwrestlingclub or via check, which can be made out to the Rootstown Wrestling Club and brought to the funeral.
