David F. Shafer, Jr. 73 of Rootstown passed away Sunday November 1, 2015 at University Hospital Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, Ohio. He was born July 25, 1942 in Ravenna, Ohio to the late David F. and Matilda (Sferra) Shafer, Sr. Mr. Shafer has lived in Rootstown the past 34 years and was formerly of Ravenna. He retired in 2004 from the Ravenna Post Office where he was a million mile mailman with no accidents and made tons and tons of friends along his route, who would still visit him after his retirement. He was member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna, the Ravenna Italian American Club and enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a people person never meeting a stranger. Mr. Shafer was a veteran of the US Air Force and was a medic that traveled to the Azores. Survivors include his wife of 51 years Judith (Stone) Shafer, his children Joseph Shafer of Rootstown, Christine Graham of Ravenna, his grandchildren Matthew and Jacob Keller. Also surviving him are his siblings Lewis Shafer of Rootstown, James Shafer of PA, Albert (Diana) Shafer of Ravenna and Rita (Edward) Labajetta of Ravenna. Calling hours will be 4-7 PM Wednesday November 4, 2015 at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Thursday November 5, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church Ravenna, Ohio with Rev. William Kraynak officiating.
