Donald E. Long 64 of Randolph Township passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 11, 1958 in Pittsburgh, PA to James and Corinne (Yeschke) Long. Throughout his 35-year career Don served as a teacher, coach and principal at James A. Garfield schools. He was a natural educator and touched many lives throughout his career. He always saw the potential and brought out the best in everyone. Don had a penchant for the outdoors and enjoyed making memories with others through his hiking, kayaking, hunting, and fishing adventures. He was fortunate to be able to check off many items of his bucket list including: hiking part of the Appalachian trail, bear hunting in Quebec, and exploring the New England fall. Don was also a dedicated Cleveland sports fan and was unlucky enough to have been in attendance at The Drive and Game 7 of the World Series; however, many happy memories were made attending sporting events with family and friends. Don was a loving husband and spoiled by his wife of 41 years. The love they had for each other was respected by many. And, together, they created a close-knit family with many cherished memories. Don was many things to many people – he was a role-model, mentor, confidante, inspiration, and loyal friend. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Timmy (Patti) Long and Bobby Long. Survivors include his wife Becky (Meers), children Nicole Long and Jeff (Lisa) Long, his grandpups Babe and Myla, and siblings Jim (Lisa) Long, Ken (Nancy) Long, and Corky Long. Don will also be missed by his in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Those who knew Don knew what a great sense of humor he had and how he could make people laugh in any situation. He maintained his quick-witted sense of humor even in his last days. Don’s courageous attitude and warrior-spirit allowed him to fight his cancer-battle head-on. His positive attitude never wavered even in the face of adversity. Don’s wish for cremation is being honored. A celebration of his life will be held at Mulligan Springs Golf Course from 3pm-6pm on Sunday, July 31st. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made towards a personalized bench at Quail Hollow park by following this link: http://starkparks.com/friends/how-to-donate/ or checks can be made out to Friends of Stark Parks and mailed to 5300 Tyner Street NW Canton, OH 44708 with a note of Don’s name.
