Donald Denton Sellman, 85 of Ravenna passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in Akron, Ohio. He was born October 12, 1930 in Brady Lake, Ohio to the late Everett and Itka (Holmes) Sellman. Don had lived most of his life in Ravenna and retired from the Davey Tree Company in Kent in 1994. After retirement, Don worked with his late wife, Gloria running the family business “Shep’s Bar” until the bar was sold in late 2007.
Don was very active in area clubs, being a member of the Ravenna Moose, Ravenna Eagles, Ravenna American Legion Post 331, Ravenna VFW Post 1055, Ravenna ITAM Club and the Kent Elks. Don also loved to golf and looked forward to his weekly Tuesday foursome and the Wednesday night league at the Elks. He was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Gloria, son Graham and brother and sister-in-law Carl and Lillian Sellman. Survivors include his children Cathy Creager, Bill (Kathy) Sellman; grandchildren Kevin (Jamie) Sellman, Chris (Valerie) Sellman and Jenna Creager; great grandchildren Brentyn, Cade and Sadie all of Hamilton, Ohio. Don is also survived by a special niece, Susy Heroux of Kent, brother-in-law Bill (Virginia) Sheppard of Horn Lake, Mississippi, nephew Billy Sheppard and nieces Nancy Troutman, Judy Samaco and April Rainey.
The family would like to thank the staff at UH Portage Medical ICU and the staff at Select Specialty Hospital in Akron for the care of their father.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 1 at 1:00PM at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes, Ravenna Chapel with Rev. Bill Snyder officiating. Don will be laid to rest next to his wife and son in Grandview Memorial Park, Ravenna. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Salvation Army.
