Donald Harold Smith 1943-2023 Donald Harold Smith was born on October 7th, 1943, in Nicktown, Pennsylvania. He grew up as the middle child of a large family of 13 on a large homestead. Donald’s character was one of strength, intelligence, hard-working, and nurturing. He was skilled at many trades. He had many wild animals that he had tamed into pets. Groundhogs were his favorite pet. He often tells a story of a pet squirrel that slept in a shirt pocket that hung on a bedpost. He met his future wife, Alma Louise Duman, at a church picnic. He served his country in Korea. He moved to Ohio in search of work. He worked at the Republic Steel Company and LTV Steel. In the late 1970s, he eventually settled down with his family in Hudson, Ohio. His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, photography, and fixing things. Donald passed away on the morning of Wednesday, June 28th, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and George, and his siblings Roy, Earl, and Fred. He is survived in life by his siblings: Ruth, David, Robert, George, Louis, Florine, and Theresa, and his wife of over 50 years: Alma Smith, his children: Traci Swartz (Jon), Brian Smith (Kate), and Eric Smith (April), and his grandchildren Jack Smith, Daniel Swartz, Nathan Swartz, and Sage Smith. He was 79 years old. He was much loved and will be missed dearly.
