Donald Oliver Vance, 96, of Ravenna passed away Friday June 22, 2012 at his residence. He was born September 6, 1915 in Akron to the late George and Cora (Denzer) Vance . Mr. Vance has lived in Ravenna most of his life and was a life time member of the Ravenna Elks. He had taught at Ravenna City Schools before retiring from Maple Hts. Schools and after retirement he had worked at Windmill Lakes Golf Course as a starter. During his teaching years he had also coached basketball and golf and was an assistant in football with Harry Gilcrest. He attended Heidelberg College on an athletic scholarship and was inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Europe during WW II as a member of the 42nd Infantry Division, the famed Rainbow Division, where he was awarded a Bronze Star. Survivors include his son Donald B. (Patsy) Vance of Ravenna, grandchildren Alex Vance and Nicholas Vance, sister Dorothy Vance of Akron and 11 nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Doris in 2002 and brothers Harold Vance and Arthur Vance, The family wishes to acknowledge the special help and friendship of Isabel Cohello of Cape Coral, Florida.  There will be no calling hours, at his request cremation has taken place.
