Dorothy Jane (Bessler) Ahrens

January 16, 1918 — March 11, 2012

Dorothy Jane Ahrens 94 of Shalersville died Sunday, March 11, 2012. She was born  January 16, 1918 in Akron, Ohio to Henry and Martha (Olhoeft) Bessler. A member of Portage Faith United Methodist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of Ruth Circle. Mrs. Ahrens was a spinner at Cleveland Worsted Mills, worked in food service at Crestwood Schools, was a 50 year member of the Shalersville Ladies Cemetery Association, and an original member of the
Shalersville Booster Club. She supported all her sons in scouts, sports, 4-H and their service in the military. She and her husband Leland took in many children from the Portage County Receiving Home. Survivors include her sons Albert (Clara) Ahrens of Palmyra, Duane (Sharon) Ahrens of Wooster, Bruce (Sue) Ahrens of Rootstown, 11 grandchildren, 15 great granschildren, daughter in law Pam (Jerry) Jewett of Canton and sister Marjorie Clark of Ravenna. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leland and son Norman. Calling hours will be from 10 AM to time of service at 11 AM Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel with Reverend Carol Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to Robinson Memorial Hospice, 6847 N. Chestnut Street, Ravenna, Ohio 44266.
