Douglas S. O'Dor

July 12, 1965 — June 29, 2023

Ravenna

Douglas S. O’Dor, 57, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Akron City Hospital after a medical emergency. Born July 12, 1965 in Lorain Ohio to Donald S. and Elaine J. O’Dor, Doug lived his entire life in Ravenna and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1983.  He earned an associate degree in accounting from Hammel Business College in Akron, Ohio, and worked as a Loan Officer at Ravenna Savings & Loan for over 20 years.  He most recently worked at Nickles Bakery and will be greatly missed at his stops and by co-workers.

Doug was an avid race fan, attending NASCAR races at Michigan, Bristol, Watkins Glen, Daytona, and California and sports car races at Mid-Ohio and Lime Rock Park, CT.  In recent years, he rarely missed a televised race or NASCAR Race Hub show.  He was also a golfer, enjoying time on the greens at golf courses all over Northeast Ohio.  He loved caring for his lawn and spending time with family and friends in his pool and on his back patio.

Doug was in the Ravenna Jaycees in the late ‘80s and ’90s and a long-time member of the Ravenna Elks.  He continued his giving ways in death as in life, donating organs and tissue through  LifeBanc to save countless lives in and around Ohio.

He was predeceased by his mother, Elaine O’Dor in 2014, and his wife of 25 years, Michelle O’Dor in 2017.  The loss of his wife was difficult for Doug. To commemorate the first anniversary of her passing, Doug shared a text with his family, “Cherish each day and tell them (your loved ones) that you love them because every day is a gift.”

Doug is survived by his daughter, Aly Machulis of Ravenna, father, Don O’Dor of Ravenna, sister, Linda O’Dor of Columbus, half-sister Nancy Goldstein of California, and in-laws Curt and Karen Harris of Rootstown, as well as several nieces, nephews and life-long childhood friends.

Calling hours will be held at Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral home in Ravenna on Wednesday, July, 5th from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Thursday, July 6th from 10:00 am – 11:00 am with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 am.
