Lee Van Hoose, 76 of Ravenna, died Friday, July 17, 2015 at Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio after a two month illness.
He was born January 15, 1939 in Wayne, WV one of eleven children of Roy and Lona (Porter) Van Hoose.
Lee graduated from Ravenna Twp. High School in the Class of 1958, where he played football with his many friends under Coach Jim Coll.
A hard worker his entire life, as a young boy Lee shined shoes at the Wayne County Courthouse. As a teenager he worked with his buddies on a muck farm, at the Sparkle Market and a car wash. Anything that Lee acquired he did on his own. After high school he began working in the plastics industry where he continued for 50+ years working his way into management. Lee retired from Akron Porcelain Plastics.
Lee and his wife of 56 years, Sue, and his family built and remodeled several homes in the area over the years. Lee and Sue spent their winters at their home in Ft. Myers, FL, where Lee worked at a local Publix Grocery Store. Lee loved his family and home and enjoyed cookouts and getting together with friends.
He also enjoyed camping, bowling, train trips, traveling out west, watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports and various school programs and was proud of them.
He is survived by his wife Sue (Rankin) Van Hoose whom he married May 1, 1959; Sons Terry (Elaine) Van Hoose of Ravenna, David Van Hoose of Akron, and daughter Lisa (Van Hoose) Johns of Salem, Ohio; and grandsons Trevor, Mark and Benjamin Van Hoose of Ravenna as well as his buddy CJ his dog.
Besides his immediate family he leaves his sister Martha Reese of Lakeland, FI. In addition, he is survived by his brothers in law and sisters in law, William and Dorothy Rankin of Kent, Sally and Art Strickland of Sebring, Fl., Lynn and Roger Cugini of Tallmadge, Nancy Bowen of Alliance and Pat Van Hoose of Dayton as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and family friend Tom Walsh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings, daughter Susan, son-in-law Zane Johns, brother in law Jerry Bowen and Father and Mother in law William and Elizabeth Rankin and nephews Tom Herrick and Randy Cugini.
Memorial calling hours will be Sunday July 26, 2015 from 2:00 pm until time of reflections of Lee at 4:00 PM at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral homes Ravenna Chapel. The family would like to specially thank Dr. Chua, Summa Hospice, the staff and RN'S on 2nd Floor West at Western Reserve Hospital and spiritual caregiver Joseph Lee for the gentle and loving care they provided during Lee's time at home and in the hospital.
