Eddie Mae (Brown) Prisby

Eddie Mae (Brown) Prisby, 101 years old, of Ravenna, Ohio transitioned on August 4, 2023. Eddie Mae was born on December 8, 1921, to Henry K. Brown and Navannah (Watkins) Brown in Kent, Ohio. She graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School in 1939 and attended Kent State University for 1 year. On November 15, 1941, Eddie Mae married Eugene Glen Prisby. Seven children were born unto that union (Errol, Mary, Glenda, John, Alice, Victoria and Caroline. They also helped raise grandsons, Bert, Brandon and Terrence. Eddie Mae is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, her son, Errol (husband of Ethel), her daughter, Glenda (wife of Charles Bronner), her grandson, Warren, and her great granddaughter, Meghan Preston and her brother, Joshua Brown. Eddie Mae Prisby retired from Oak Rubber after many years and was the first black union steward. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Infant of Prague, Young at Heart and the 1999 Grand Marshall of the Balloon Affair. She picked up her love and talent for music in the 4th grade…the piano. It was one of her many passions. She was the organist for Immaculate Conception, pianist for the Kent Union Baptist Church, and she played and volunteered her talents for innumerable events and places such as University Hospitals – Portage Medical Center for many years. (She even played at the “Old Folks Home” even though she was older than some of the “Old Folks”. Eddie Mae leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters, Mary McMurray from Ravenna, Ohio; Alice Washington (Preston Bunche) from South Carolina; Victoria Prisby Papczun (Russ) from Ravenna, Ohio; Caroline Prisby from Ravenna, Ohio; her son, John Prisby from Ravenna, Ohio; her brother, Henry Harold Brown from Colorado. She also leaves 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 13 great, great grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.  Visitation will be from 10 AM until time of funeral mass at 11 AM Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
