Ernest R. "Ernie" Moravec 89 of Shalersville died Tuesday, June 30, 2015. He was born August 31, 1925 in Warrensville Township, Ohio to the late Charles and Anna (Cardamone) Moravec. A US Navy veteran in the Pacific in WWII, he also was a member of the Ravenna VFW #1055, Ravenna American Legion #331 and the 40 and 8 Club. Ernie retired in 1995 from ODOT as a supervisor, was a Portage County Deputy Sheriff from 1963 to 1969 and had been a garlic farmer. He was the loving father to Dale of Aurora, Ernest Jr. (Peggy) and Matthew (Christine) both of Kent and Russell (Susan) of San Antonio, TX, grandchildren Ashley, Kari, Craig, Brandon, Christopher, Kent, Mitchel, Jeffery, Jillian and Sarah, great grandchildren Max, Marshall and baby girl Caruso and numerous adoptive children he helped along the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marion in 2013 and sisters Charlotte and Pearl. Calling hours will be from 2 - 8 PM Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Friday, July 3, 2015 at the funeral home with Reverend William Snyder officiating. Burial with military honors will take place on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to The Adam S.
