Ernest L. Walter, 88, of Ravenna, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 17, 2012. He was born on November 10, 1923 in Dover, Ohio to the late Ernest and Mildred (Brandt) Walter. Ernest served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and he graduated from Ohio State University in 1950. He was a member of the Ravenna Elks Lodge and loved fishing, boating, his computer, taking pictures, and watching sports, especially the Cleveland Indians. Ernest is survived by his daughter, Alma (Henry) Peyton of Rootstown; step-sons, Tom Gregory of Ravenna, Dr. Richard Gregory of Aurora, and Ralph Gregory of Garrettsville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Reed of Dover; nieces, Dr. Jessica (Richard) Fisher of New Philadelphia, Maureen (R.L.) Wenger of New Philadelphia, and Marsha Reed of Massillon; nephew, Michael (Rhonda) Reed of New Philadelphia. In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Walter and his second wife, Margaret (Wilson) Walter; sons, Wade and John Walter; sister, Josephine Raeder; and brother, John Walter. Cremation has taken place. Memorial calling hours will be held on Monday from 10AM until the 11AM service at Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Private burial will follow.
