Frank R. Whitacre 82 of Ravenna passed away peacefully Saturday, August 19, 2017 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born January 11, 1935 in Kent, Ohio to Ray E. and Ruth P. (Betz) Whitacre. Frank attended the Bethel Baptist Church. He worked as a welder for Massey Ferguson where he was a member of the United Auto Workers(UAW) Union Local 1505 and Retired from Rotek in Aurora where he was a member of the United Steel Workers (USW) Union Local 8565. Survivors include his daughter Lorie  and son Matthew (Madeline) Whitacre. Grandchildren Corey, Samantha, Amanda, Ashley, Todd and Jacob. Great grandsons Dylan and Ayden, all who were the lights of his life. Frank is also survived by his loving sister Judy Furness, and many nieces  and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Shirley, brothers and sisters: Kathlyn, Kay, Caroline, Thomas, Kenneth, Ray(Tootie), Wesley, David, Robert and Pamela. He enjoyed visiting McDonald's for early morning coffee with friends and attending local Senior groups. Heartfelt thanks to Crossroads Hospice and Stow-Glen for their kind, caring and compassionate support. Calling hours will be from 11:00 AM until time of funeral services at 12:00 PM Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Bethel Baptist Church, 745 N. Freedom Street, Ravenna, Ohio. Pastor David Ballert will officiate. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.
