George W. Wright, Jr

November 21, 1928 — June 2, 2016

George William Wright, Jr. of Streetsboro, Ohio, passed away peacefully with his children at his side on June 1, 2016, after a brief illness. He was 87.

“Bill,” as he was known to his family and friends, was born November 21, 1928 to George William Wright Sr., and Martha Alice (Hammack) Wright in South Charleston, West Virginia. He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1949.

Bill was an outdoor enthusiast with a love for hunting and fishing. He was also an artist who chose wood as his medium handcrafting a variety of gifts for his family and friends over the years. He was proud of his Native American heritage and, about a decade ago, built a ceremonial drum that continues to be used today.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Martha Anne (Otey) Wright. He is survived by his second wife Marie Wright; his siblings Bertha Sansome (Ed), Jack Wright (Joyce), and Martha Walker; his children Cindy Cook (Harold), the Rev. Joe Wright (Sue) and Judy Wilson (Joe); nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends who will all miss him greatly.

Bill will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery next to his loving wife Martha. Friends and family are invited to call at the Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral home in Streetsboro from 12:30-2:00pm on Monday, June 6, with burial and services to follow at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you spend some time enjoying nature today, or find an opportunity to appreciate a hand-crafted piece of furniture. If you would like to make a donation to a charity in Bill’s honor please consider the Marine Graduation Foundation at USMCGrad.org.  Condolences and memories of Bill may be shared with the family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
