Geraldine M. “Gerry” (Long) Richards of Ravenna, Ohio, age 81 passed away Friday, September 10, 2010 at her home with her family at her side. She was born November 12, 1928 in Custis, West Virginia to Luther & Bertha (Cutlip) Long who preceded her in death. She leaves her wonderful husband of 60+ years, Albert D. Richards. son: Larry (Jean Uhrig)Richards, of Alliance, Ohio, daughter: Cathy (Gary) Mix of Butler, PA, son: Daniel (Patti Farkaly)Richards, of Gulf Shores, AL. Grandchildren: Ryan Richards of North Canton, Ohio, Brent (Angela) Richards of Hilliard,Ohio Steven (Michele) Mix of Sarver, PA. Gregory (Mindy) Mix of North Apollo, PA. Amy (Mark) Luther, of Birmingham, AL., Tami (Brad) Thomas, of Arlington, TN, Eric (Holly) Richards of Madison. AL. Madison, Thomas, and Hanna Luther of AL, Great Grandchildren: Grady and Noah Richards of Hilliard, Ohio. Tabitha and Tiffany Mix of Sarver, PA. Katie Mix of North Apollo, PA. Christina, Kayla, Courtney and Brandon Thomas, of Arlington, TN. Ella and Addison Richards of Madison, AL. Gerry was preceded in death by her three brothers and two sisters: James (Juanita) Long, of Elkview, WV, Gaylord (Mary) Long of Lincoln, NE. Claude Long killed in World War II. Merle (Harvey) Richards and Pauline (Henry) Streen of Maple Heights, Ohio. Niece: Linda (Larry) Heckert of Lincoln, NE. Nephews: James Long of Omaha, NE. Bill (Glenda) Richards of Diamond, Ohio, James (Jeanne) Richards of Diamond, Ohio. Roy (Robin) Richards of Rootstown, Ohio. Stanley (Debbie) Streen, of Macedonia, Ohio, Dennis (Milena) Streen of Brooklyn Heights, Ohio. She retired from Portage County Juvenile Court, worked for Southeast High School and Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, FL (where they wintered for twenty four years) She worked with Judge George McClelland and Marc Roberto to start the Portage Community Action Council,(Head Start & other programs) the second year became the Director when Marc resigned. She served on the Southeast Board of Education for four years and was a 50 +member of the Order of the Eastern Star #46 which she received her fifty year pin this past year. She was a past member of Newton Fall Methodist, Newton Falls, Ohio and a member of Southside Christian Church in Fort Myers, Fla. She enjoyed spending time with her family & friends, bowling, playing cards and watching the Cavs. and Indians on TV. Cremation has taken place and the Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Short-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel with Pastor Bruce Merritt, of U.M.C. of Butler, Pa, officiating. Friends and Family may call from 10 – till time of service. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ravenna, Ohio at a later date.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Robinson Memorial Hospice or Palmyra Methodist Church.
