Gladys A. Parsons, 86 years of age, became Our Gift to God on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna, Ohio. Gladys was born on February 13, 1924 to John Henry and Rosalie (Dietrick) Parsons in Hudson, Ohio. For 44 years she worked for the Hudson School District, first as a school secretary, then secretary to the superintendent, and for the remaining 27 years as the district treasurer. She was very active in her community. She was longtime officer of the Darrow Street Grange, member of the vestry at Grace Episcopal Church in Ravenna, and a director of the Summit Federal Credit Union. She was also involved with the Portage County Historical Society and the Portage County Democratic Party. Gladys loved to travel and in her younger years visited Alaska, Switzerland, and England. She was preceded in death by her sister Louise (C.H. Bus) Harper, and her brother John Henry (Corey) Parsons. She leaves behind her nephews John (Karen) Harper, Raymond (Vicki) Harper, John Henry Parsons III, Nathan Parsons, and nieces Joyce (Leonard) Brehm, Kitty Hamilton, and Cheryl Parsons. She also leaves behind many friends from her church family at Grace Episcopal Church in Ravenna. She will be laid to rest on Friday, January 28 at 11:00 am at Hillside Cemetery in Mantua with a special memorial by the Reverend Carol S. Evans. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Grace Episcopal Church, 250 West Cedar Avenue, Ravenna, OH 44266, or to the donor’s favorite charity. A special thank you to the staff at Longmeadow Care Center and Robinson Memorial Hospice for the excellent care extended to Gladys in her final days. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.
