Glenn C. Rutan, 90, passed away at home on Monday, September 6. Born December
19, 1919 in Washington, Pa. to Gretta Belle and J. Frank Rutan, he was the youngest of 4 girls and 3 boys. Glenn was a graduate of Muskingum College, where he met his wife of 64 years, Marybelle. He later received his Masters Degree from Kent State University. The young couple were teachers, and Glenn began his career at Ravenna High School in 1947. In 1956 he began teaching in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District from which he retired in 1978. Following this he pursued a second vocation in golf, as well as gardening. Glenn enlisted in the United States Navy and served from May 28, 1942 to December 25, 1945. A long-time member of the Ravenna Elks Lodge #1076, he was Exalted Ruler in 1972, District Deputy in 1983, and became an Honorary Life Member in 1993. At the time of his death he was the Lodge’s Chairman for Cerebral Palsy fundraising. He was also a Life Member of the V.F.W. #1055, and belonged to the Malta Masonic Lodge #118. Glenn is survived by his devoted wife Marybelle; daughters Jayce (Scott) Hutchison of Pueblo, Colorado and Jayne (Andy) Trautman of Brecksville; and loving grandsons Dylan and Deryk Trautman. He will be remembered as a man who gave much of himself for others. Friends and family will be received Sunday, September 12 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, followed immediately by an Elks Memorial Service to which all are invited. The calling hours and service will be held at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
