Greg Smith

Greg Smith passed away peacefully from cancer on September 30 at his home with his family at his side. He was born September 7, 1956 in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania to Carol (McConnell) Smith and Donald Smith. He worked for the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities as a Transportation Manager for 26 years. Prior to that he worked for Alson Jewelers and JB Robinson Jewelers. He is survived by wife, Leslie and children Ben and Kelley and his parents; two sisters, Tammy Fischer and Sandy Taylor; two brothers, Donnie and Ronnie Smith as well as many extended family members and friends.
Greg was a man of great humor and many passions. He served in numerous scouting positions in Aurora and with Great Trail Council including being the Scoutmaster for Troop 265 three different times. He served on 7 Wood Badge Adult Leadership training courses. He was also very knowledgeable about the Civil War and spent several years reenacting with both the 8th Ohio and 61st Ohio units.  In addition to his passion for history, he loved Mustangs and owned 1966 and 2013 coupes. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Greg’s name to Boy Scouts, Great Trail Council Wood Badge Scholarship Fund 1601 South Main St., Akron, OH 44301.
The family will recieve friends at the funeral home in Streetsboro Friday from 5-7 PM. There will be a celebration of Greg's life Saturday at 1:30 PM at the Portage Faith United Methodist Church, 9922 OH 44, Mantua, OH.
Graveside services will be private as Greg wished in the Aurora Cemetery.
