Harold E. Tipton

December 12, 1932 — October 29, 2016

Harold E. Tipton completed his Baptism Saturday October 29th, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born December 12, 1932 in Hooverville, PA. He lived in Somerset, PA until he left for the army in 1953 where he did his basic training in Fort Gorgon, Georgia. He then married the love of his life, Shirley Lohr, on August 5, 1953. Harold was then stationed in Metz, France at the end of the Korean war. After discharge from the army he lived in Somerset, PA until 1957 when he moved to Ravenna, Ohio. Harold worked at Allen Aircraft when he first moved to Ravenna, then he opened his own T.V. business (Tipton T.V.) that he owned for 43 years. After retiring from his business he worked part time for Haasz Automall. Harold was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church of Ravenna since moving to Ohio. He also was a member of Ravenna Moose #1234 and American Legion. Harold was very loved by his family and they will greatly miss him. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley of 63 years. His daughters Judy (Jeff) Calvin, Janet (Roland) Perry and son David (Heidi) Tipton. He has 7 grandchildren Missy (Rob) Wright, Kristine (Rob) Kotrick, Alicia Calvin, Nathan Perry, Holly (Kurt) Volker, Michelle (Jason) Cleveland, Matt (Libby) Tipton. He also has 6 greatgrandchildren, Autumn, Kyle, Olivia, Erin, Paitynn and Jase. He is also survived by sisters Emma (Ron) Stanfield and Edith (Frank) Morgan. Harold was preceded in death by his parents James R. Tipton, Cordilla (Shocky) Tipton. His brothers Charles and Jacob Tipton and sisters Thelma Ritenour, Lois Stoner, Barbra Tipton and Grace Theil. Harold was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Harold’s love, knowledge and ability to fix anything will be greatly missed by all of his family. He had a true gift to teach all of us about life. Throughout his life Harold enjoyed camping, hunting, riding dirt bikes, traveling and spending time with friends and family. Harold also enjoyed watching his grandkids and great grandkids sporting events throughout the years. The family of Harold is very grateful for all of the friends, family and church support over the last month, and especially Summa Hospice. In leu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church  170 N. Freedom St. Ravenna, Ohio 44266 or Summa Hospice  444 N. Main St.  Akron, Ohio 44310.  Calling hours will be Tuesday  November 1, 2016 from 2-4  and 6-8 PM at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel  with Moose services at 7:30 PM and on Wednesday November 2, 2016 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 Am at  St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Dan Caruso officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in Grandview Memorial Park Ravenna, Ohio.  Condolences and memories of Harold may be shared with the family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
