Helen Mary Schuman

Our beloved mother, Helen Mary “Bunny” Fabian Schuman, age 89, a woman of faith, grace, resilience, & beauty, was surrounded by family at her residence in Streetsboro, Ohio as she went on to join her much-missed loved ones in heaven on July 5th, 2026. A loving, devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, companion, & friend to many, she entered this world on June 30th, 1937, the daughter of John & Helen (Hustack) Fabian in Yukon, PA.

Following her studies at South Huntingdon High School, she was employed at Seton Hill College, both located in PA, until eventually choosing to follow family to Bedford, OH, where she was employed by Fisher Fazio Grocery Store. It was in Bedford where she met her future husband, Don Schuman, to whom she had been married for 34 years. This was the beginning of her career as a homemaker and exceptional mother. Her children enjoyed the benefits of her top-notch baking skills, always excited about her homemade bread, nut roll, brownies, & peanut butter fingers. When it came to her dinners, her Hungarian stuffed cabbage, stuffed peppers, chicken paprikash, & soups could not be beat. Each holiday was made memorable due to her love of holidays and excitement when her family was all together to celebrate with her.

Helen Mary was a founding member of St. Joan of Arc Church, where she belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society for many years, volunteering her talents & sharing her compassion for others. She enjoyed camping for many years with her family & friends every summer & she still managed to provide culinary delights on a camp stove. She volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader for nearly a decade, mentoring many young scouts. She enjoyed spending time with them as much as they enjoyed the many adventures & activities she planned for them. She crocheted beautiful blankets for her children & grandchildren as well as making adorable plastic canvas Christmas villages for under their trees.

She leaves behind her legacy of children: Michelle (Paul) McSweeney, Karen (John) McQuaid, Larry Schuman, Laura (Charles) Wheater; grandchildren: John (Nina Hiltunen) McQuaid, Nicole (Matt Kieswetter) Jepson, Ryan Jaworski, Branden Jaworski, Charlie Wheater, & Sammie Wheater; & great-grandchildren: Reese & Emily McQuaid, Rye, Khaleb, & Ayla Jepson, Shane Jaworski, and Kora & Tomi Jaworski, who love her immensely & will never forget her.

Along with joining her father John S. Fabian, who passed when she was only 4 years old, she joins her mother, Helen & dad, Frank Drzewicky, her siblings Madeline Webb & John R. Fabian, her husband Don K. Schuman, her son-in-law Joseph Jaworski, & companion, Jim May.

Calling hours are Tuesday, July 14th, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home, 9781 Page Rd., Streetsboro.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 15th at 11 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc, 8894 St. Rt. 14, Streetsboro.
