James "Jim" Carl "Coach" Ewell, 80, of Streetsboro died on Saturday, August 28, 2010 in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 7, 1929 in Ravenna to the late Carl and Leona (Ruhier) Ewell. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Redeemer Church in Cuyahoga Falls. He was also a member of the Ravenna VFW Post#1055 and the American Legion. Jim was employed by John Klann Trucking Company as well as Portage County. He was a loving father and foster father to many. Jim coached Pee Wee football for 30 years and Little League baseball for 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carol (Santabarbara) Ewell of Streetsboro; his children, adopted son, Glenn Ewell, Mary O'Neil of Ravenna, Rick (Patricia) Ewell of Garrettsville, Tommy (Christine) Ewell of Greenville, Michigan, Amy Pantelo of Cleveland, Ann Ewell -Bolf of Cuyahoga Falls, Rose Ewell- Bencie of Mantua, Jamie Ewell-Bush of Streetsboro, and Anthony (Caryn) Ewell of Cortland; 30 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Barbara (Franklin) Smith of Kent. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Angel. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM.
