James F. Gilbert

James F. Gilbert 88 of Ravenna passed away Sunday Febuary 13, 2011 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. He was born June 28, 1922 in Edinburg, Ohio to the late Jay and Ida (Turner) Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert has lived in Ravenna since 1945 and retired from Portage Distributing as a driver, he also worked on the family farm was a union carpenter. He served as a CB in WW II with the US Navy and was a member of the Ravenna VFW Post 1055. Survivors include his wife of 68 years Joanne (Wise) Gilbert, sons James L. (Janet) Gilbert of Greeley, Colorado, John (Suzie Howell) Gilbert of Hartville, Ohio, Jeff (Elise Andrews) Gilbert of Forest Hills, Maryland, Joe M. (Ann) Gilbert of Lakewood, Ohio, daughter Joan E. (Larry) Gilbert-Allen of Charleston, South Carolina, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren and sister Dorothy Weinkauf of Hiram, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter Quinn Gilbert and brother Harold Gilbert. Calling hours will be from 1:00 PM until time of services at 2:00 PM Wednesday February 16, 2011 at Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel with his son Joe giving the eulogy. Burial will follow in Edinburg Cemetery Edinburg Twp., Ohio. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials to be made to the Robinson Memorial Hospice and Visiting Nurse 6847 N. Chestnut St. Ravenna, Ohio 44266.
