James W. Simms, Sr.

James W. Simms, Sr. 88 of Kent passed away Friday October 9, 2015 at his residence with his family by his side.  He was born July 26, 1927 in Clarksburg, WVA to the late Robert M. and Mabel P. (Wagner) Simms.  Mr. Simms has lived in Kent since 1957 and was formerly of Clarksburg, WVA, he retired from Filmco in Streetsboro where he worked in maintenance  and also had worked as a roofer.  He proudly served his country  in WW II with the US Navy and had attended the Star Bethlehem Baptist Church in Aurora.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine on October 12, 2008, three brothers and two sisters.  Survivors include his children James (Ginger) Simms, Jr. of Kent,  Ricky (OkIm )Simms of O'Fallen, Illinois, Robert (Kimberly) Simms of Carpentersville, Illinois, Debbie (Bob) McFarland of Ravenna, Linda (Jim) Nutter of Aurora, Michele (Jack) Cristall of Ravenna, 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and brother Norman Simms of Buckhannon, WV.  Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5-8 PM  and on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Streetsboro Chapel with Pastor John Angle officiating.  He will be laid to rest next to his wife Geraldine at Grandview  Memorial Park Ravenna, Ohio.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to RMH Hospice and VNA.   Condolences and memories of James may be shared with the family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
