James C. Tonkin

James C. Tonkin 80 of Shalersville died Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at his residence with his loving family at his side. He was born June 4, 1934 in Flatwoods, WV to Arden and Mary (Gumm) Tonkin. James worked for Penn Central Railroad and had lived in Shalersville since 1978. Survivors include his daughters Karen Oani of Shalersville and Karleen (Dan) Shockey of Urbana, OH, 9 grandchildren including Brent and Leona Oani, 10 great grandchildren, stepchildren Laurie Schaeffer, Linda Haney, Leslie Harper, Robert, Rick and Randall Bartos and a sister Juanita Heater of Coolville, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Frieda , wife Ruth J and a stepson Ramon Bartos. There will be no calling hours, a celebration of his life will be held from 2-6 PM on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 8201 State Route 44 in Shalersville. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Dr, Green, OH 44685. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.
