Janet R. Parkinson, 90, of Ravenna, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025. She was born on January 30, 1935 in Columbiana, Ohio to the late Charles and Janet (Grundy) Reinehr.
A 1957 graduate of Ohio Northern University, Janet worked as a pharmacist in Streetsboro and Ravenna before retiring as Director of Health & Safety Education for the American Red Cross. She was the first Vice President of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America NE Ohio Synod following its merger. Jan was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, a volunteer speaker for the Arthritis Foundation, and an active member of Beta Sorosis.
Jan loved to travel and she and Chuck visited the US and Canada extensively, both with family and friends over the years. She enjoyed learning, going back to college to study journalism in the early 80’s, becoming a bonus mom to students her children’s ages. She and Chuck attended many Elderhostel trips over the years, making new friends from around the country. She found joy in writing and investigating family genealogy, completing a book of stories of her life that is a precious memory to those who loved her. Her family, friends and faith were the cornerstones of her life and she will be greatly missed by the many whose lives she touched.
Janet was preceded in death by her brothers Henry (Ethel), Francis (Betty) and Richard (Lois) Reinehr.
Janet is survived by her beloved husband, Charles, with whom she would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on September 4th; children, Amy (John) Crawford of Garrettsville, OH, Charles II (Michelle) Parkinson of Shorter, AL, and Christopher (Cynthia) Parkinson of Anderson, SC; and grandchildren Christian Crawford and Caroline Parkinson.
Calling hours will be held Friday, August 8, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 170 N. Freedom St. Ravenna, Ohio 44266. Additional visitation will take place Saturday from 10–11 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. officiated by Pastor Dan Caruso. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church in her name.
