Joan Mckitrick (Allan) Kropp

Joan McKitrick –Kropp, 82, of Garrettsville passed away Friday September 21, 2012 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio with her loving family at her side. She was born August 4, 1930 in Wadsworth, Ohio to the late Ross and Reba (Overdorf) Allan. Mrs. Kropp has lived in Garrettsville the past 32 years and was formerly of Streetsboro. She was the first elected village Treasurer of Streetsboro before the city was incorporated. Joan became employed by Kent National Bank (now known as Huntington National Bank) in May of 1959 and in January of 1996; she retired from the Huntington National Bank in Ravenna as Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager. She was a faithful member of the Garrettsville United Methodist Church, the 20th Century Club in Garrettsville and a volunteer at Robinson Memorial Hospital where she was also on the Foundation Board. Joan was not only the first woman to be inducted into the Ravenna Rotary Club where she served as treasurer, but was voted The Rotarian of the Year in 2006. Devoted to our children’s future, she served on the Streetsboro City School Board from 1976 to 1980, where she held a seat as President. Joan enjoyed bird watching, collecting bird houses, reading, playing golf, traveling (she visited all 50 states), knitting blankets for every one of her grandchildren and then some and spending time at various casinos. She was a passionate person and to those that knew her was blessed.  Survivors include her husband Harlan Kropp, Jr. whom she married February 14, 1980, her children, Kathy (Jim) McKitrick -Lawson of Streetsboro, Mike (Maria) McKitrick of Jasper, Indiana. Her stepchildren Vicki Kropp of Ravenna, Betty Cartwright of Gainesville, GA and Julie Rand of Kent. Her grandchildren Julie Lawson of Streetsboro, Jay Lawson of Hilton Head, SC, Heather (Shane) McPherson of Gainesville, GA, Christie (Brandon) Crouse of Sugar Hill, GA, Butch Abel of Ravenna, DeeJay (Stephanie) Rasmussen of Rupert, ID, Renee Rand and Eric Rand of Kent, Perry Colbert of Ravenna, Dawne (Tom) Franjesh of Akron, Gil Quezada of Evansville, Indiana. She is also survived by 26 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 28 years, Sheriff Allen “Mac” McKitrick, whom passed, September 11, 1978 and Brother Robert Allan. The family would like to extend special thanks to some very special people including Pat Bergstrom and Family, Terry Sargent, and Terry and Linda Allen, her Golfing Buddies, Jan Chalker and Theresa Manno. There are many more friends and neighbors they wish to thank however to numerous to mention.  Memorial Calling hours will be 5-8 PM Monday September 24, 2012 at Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel and on Tuesday September 25, 2012 from 2 Pm until time of services at 4:OO PM at the Garrettsville United Methodist Church.
