Joan C. Banister passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born in Cleveland on August 20, 1938.
Joan was raised in Cleveland. She spent several years raising her family in Bedford. In 1976, Joan designed and built her dream home in Aurora. She spent the next fifty years there creating cherished memories with her family.
Joan was a fiercely independent and strong modern woman. She earned a degree from Cuyahoga Community College and was always steadily employed. She began her hardworking career in the Bedford Community School District (Moody Junior High). She later worked for the Cleveland Heights – University Heights School District (Monticello Junior High) and retired from the South Euclid – Lyndhurst City School District (Brush High School). The theater students and staff at Brush High School provided Joan with wonderful memories and had a significant impact on her life.
Joan enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and especially loved visiting her grandchildren in Michigan, always committed to being present for significant milestones in their lives. She never missed an opportunity to send a card acknowledging birthdays, anniversaries, or to express gratitude with a thoughtful thank-you note. She participated in activities offered by the Aurora Senior Center and loved going out for meals.
Joan was preceded in death by her devoted mother, Vera M. Patrick. Joan was the loving mother of Jenise (Brad) Hillier and Frank Arcuri. She was an extraordinary grandmother to Weston (Caitlin) Hillier and Matthew Hillier.
Joan will be greatly missed, cherished and forever loved by her family and friends. Her strength and devotion to family will never be forgotten.
